If you have been looking for an organization where you can make a difference in the workplace, realize your potential with the help of a positive, supportive network of employees, the Women of NASA (WON) Headquarters is the organization for you. WON is a women’s Employee Resource Group (ERG) and its Charter was enacted on February 26, 2016.

Mission

“The mission of WON is to bring together women of diverse occupations and to provide opportunities for them to help themselves and others grow personally and professionally through leadership, education, networking support, and national recognition. WON seeks to encourage diversity for inclusion and equity in the workplace, and for the advancement and professional growth of women in federal service at NASA.” 

Employee Resource Group 

WON serves as a resource to NASA Headquarters employees and advises NASA Headquarters management on the following topics related to women:

  • Employment practices in an effort to attract, advance, and retain a highly skilled, competent and diverse workforce;
  • Fair practices in the recruitment, hiring, advancement, and retention in the NASA Headquarters workplace;
  • Cultivating a diverse, inclusive, accessible, and culturally competent workforce that recognizes and appreciates the various cultures and communities in the workforce;
  • Challenges, issues, and concerns affecting employment and work life;
  • Education and awareness forums on various diversity, inclusion, and Equal Employment and Opportunity (EEO) topics;
  • Career and leadership development;
  • Identification and removal of barriers to success;
  • New initiatives at NASA Headquarters.

Membership 

Membership in WON is open to all NASA Headquarters civil servants with an interest in supporting matters of importance to the constituents served by this organization. Contractors are welcome to attend NASA sponsored WON events but cannot charge their time to NASA nor become members of WON. 

How to Become a Member of WON:

Joining WON is easy for all civil servants. Simply submit your name via email to: hq-WON@mail.nasa.gov

Meetings, Events, Activities 

WON holds a variety of meetings, events, and activities throughout the year as specified in its Annual Work Plan. Such activities include:

  • Steering Committee Meetings: Held biweekly unless otherwise determined by the Steering Committee. These meetings are not open to regular members.
  • Regular Membership Meetings: Held biannually as determined by the Steering Committee. One of these meetings is used to establish the priorities of the upcoming year (“Annual Work Plan”), celebrate accomplishments, and install newly elected Officers, if required. All members are invited.
  • WON Events: Held at the discretion of the Steering Committee and in alignment with the Annual Work Plan. WON events are open invitation activities that may focus on networking, leadership, learning, special topic(s), or other matters that align with the Annual Work Plan. 

Leadership 

The leadership of WON currently consists of nine elected Officers, an Adviser Emeritus, and a Champion. The responsibilities, duties, and tenure of the Officers are defined in WON’s bylaws. The Steering Committee Officers, Adviser Emeritus, and Champion are:
