Radiation is a problem for high-altitude commercial and research aircraft. Showers of high-energy neutrons cause glitches in computer electronics and other aircraft systems. This problem investigates the neutron background radiation at 30,000 to 100,000 feet based on actual flight data. Students interpret a graph and use the data to answer questions about memory glitches on an aircraft. A one-page teacher guide accompanies the one-page assignment.
