Each of the five interviewees joined NASA through different programs and worked on different missions. Find out how you can get involved with NASA internships and pursue a career in STEM.
STEM Short Activity: Fan-tastic Forces—Small Steps to Giant Leaps
Objective: Demonstrate the forces of flight using different materials and shapes to determine which are the most and least susceptible to lift, weight, drag and thrust.
Duration: 60 minutes
Materials Needed: Box fan, ruler, tape, straws, patterns for 3D shapes, paper, two objects of equal size but different weights (i.e., notecard vs. plastic cutout)
Difficulty: Moderate
“NASA STEM Stars” is a webchat series. Each chat introduces a science, technology, engineering or math career, addresses a STEM topic and highlights a NASA mission. The chat includes a STEM activity that students can do at home. After the interviews, experts answer students’ questions.
