The crystal model device uses BBs to represent atoms of one kind. The BBs are placed into a shallow pan that is vibrated at different speeds. The amount of vibration at any one time represents the heat energy contained in the atoms. Increasing the vibration rate simulates heating of a solid material. “Student reader” pages provide background information about crystallization. Student worksheets may be used to assess student learning.
