How do you design buildings to withstand hurricanes? Students are given simple materials and design requirements to design and build a tower as tall as possible that will hold up a tennis ball while resisting the force of wind from a fan. For an extra challenge, a spray bottle of water can be used to simulate rain. Students test and redesign their towers to improve their performance.

This lesson plan includes teacher and student pages and a slideshow presentation.
