Yung Nguyen

Yung Nguyen is the Project Manager for the Steam Vacuum System Controls Migration Project.  Prior to that she was the Deputy Project Manager for the Arc Jet Modernization Program after her position of Project Manager for the Arc Jet Complex Boiler Replacement Project which was to provide a modern and modular boiler system to replace the existing aging 55-year old boiler plant consisting of a 70-year old single steam boiler that generates motive steam required by the Steam Vacuum System at the Ames Arc Jet Complex.  The Arc Jet Complex is the largest arc jet facility of its type in the United States and is currently in high demand for testing the heat shield for the lunar return and ascent abort re-entry vehicle trajectories.  Prior to the Boiler Project she was the Deputy Project Manager for the GeneLab Research Platform that will expand Life Science Research on the International Space Station. She has held several key positions on high profile projects like SOFIA and LADEE. Yung received her bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of California, Davis. She then worked as a Project Engineer for the General American Transportation Corporation, (GATX) before coming to Ames in 1996. She returned to school at that time and earned a master’s degree in Civil Engineering and Construction Management from San Jose State University while working as a Project Engineer on the NFAC Aero-acoustic Modification Project.

In 2022 and 2018, Yung was the recipient of the NASA Honor Award for Exceptional Achievement Medal.
