Professional Biography
William Chan is the division chief for the Aviation Systems Division at NASA Ames Research Center. Prior to this role, he served as the project manager of the Air Traffic Management Exploration (ATM-X) Project, where he successfully led the team through initial planning, formulation, and execution. William also served as the chief of multiple branches in the Aviation System Division. As an engineer, William conducted air traffic management research with emphasis on aircraft trajectory prediction algorithm development and automated weather avoidance flight planning. Prior to joining NASA, he was one of the original US Air Force flight test engineers for the C-17 program and a lecturer for Meteorology at San Jose State University. He earned B.S. degrees in Aeronautical Engineering and Physics from Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, CA and an M.S. in Meteorology from San Jose State University with a research focus on aviation turbulence.
