Professional Biography
Dr. Susan Schoenung is a Senior Research Scientist employed through the Ames Center for Research in Earth Science and Technology, a cooperative agreement between the Bay Area Environmental Research Institute and NASA Ames Research Center.
Dr. Schoenung works for NASA’s Airborne Science Program, an element of the Science Mission Directorate – Earth Science Division. She supports advanced planning for the program capabilities in terms of aircraft, payloads and support systems. Her work involves assessment of aircraft utilization for all areas of Earth Science and is forward looking to the needs of the Earth Science community, especially support for future satellite and Space Shuttle missions.
Dr. Schoenung is also involved in determination of appropriate use of uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS) for Earth Science, especially High Altitude Long Endurance (HALE) capabilities. She was a member of the original Environmental Research and Sensor Technology (ERAST) team that pioneered UAS development and science applications for NASA.
Dr. Schoenung is also a specialist in propulsion and energy storage technologies, including batteries and fuel cells.
