Sandra Whitmire
Element Scientist, Human Factors and Behavioral Performance
Alexandra (Sandra) Whitmire helps manage projects that mitigate risks for future spaceflight. Her background focuses on experimental and occupational health psychology.
Whitmire began her career working with the state of Texas and MD Anderson Cancer Center on organizational development. She joined NASA’s Human Research Program in 2006 as a research coordinator for the Human Health and Performance element. Whitmire went on to serve as the deputy element scientist for the Behavioral Health and Performance element, working in areas related to fatigue management, performance measurement, and strategies that help counter the behavioral effects of spaceflight.
Whitmire completed her bachelor’s degree in English and Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin. She then earned her master’s degree in Psychology, with a focus on experimental psychology, from the University of Texas in San Antonio and her doctorate in Psychology from Capella University.
