Robert “Bob” Kline is the acting chief for the Environmental Assurance Branch (EAB) within the Medical and Environmental Services Division of Spaceport Integration and Services at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida, a position he has held since November 2023.
Kline’s duties include managing the center’s resources to ensure environmental regulatory compliance of all NASA and contractor operations, manage the remediation of pollution and contamination on center, and manage risks to center personnel, the environment, and wildlife on center.
Kline is the technical authority for Kennedy Space Center regarding federal, state, and local environmental regulations. He is also the point of contact between NASA and regulatory agencies.
Experience
Kline began his career at NASA in 2006 as a project manager for the Remediation Program where he oversaw the efforts of three engineering consulting firms conducting environmental investigation and remediation at Kennedy Space Center. His duties included planning, programming, and managing a variety of environmental investigations and cleanup of soil, sediment, ground water, and surface water.
In 2015, Kline became the lead for the Permitting and Compliance Group with EAB. He was responsible for the assessment and remediation of impacts from space launch ground systems and launch and landing operations at NASA Kennedy.
Kline is a professional engineer registered in the state of Florida. He has 28 years of experience in civil and environmental engineering and construction primarily performing environmental investigations and remediation.
Education
Kline received a bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering from the University of Central Florida.
Personal
Kline became inspired to be an engineer by his mother who worked on rocket fuel formulations at NASA in the early days of the Apollo program.
Kline lives in Cocoa, Florida with his wife and daughter. The Kline family enjoys the outdoors, hiking, boating, and fishing.
