Dr. Carolyn A. Mizell is the division chief for the Future Systems Projects Office in Exploration Ground Systems (EGS) Program at NASA’s John F. Kennedy Space Center in Florida. In this position, Mizell is focused on supporting future Artemis campaign efforts and providing the strategic framework for how the unique skills developed in the EGS Program can be leveraged to make the enterprise more successful.
Experience
Dr. Mizell began her career as a Space Shuttle Flight Instrumentation engineer and spent time in other organizations including Design Engineering, System Management Office, and Center Planning and Development. In the latter, she focused on developing long range program and mission technology plans to solve ground operations problems and to identify opportunities for technology infusion.
Over the last 10 years, Mizell has served as Chief of the Research and Technology (R&T) Management Office in Exploration Research & Technology Program where she provided leadership to ensure that KSC R&T is being effectively managed and strategically planned for various programs and projects under the Space Technology Mission Directorate, Moon to Mars Program Enterprise, and Mars Campaign Office.
Awards
Dr. Mizell was awarded the KSC’s Outstanding Supervisor Award in 2017.
Education
Mizell received her Ph.D. in industrial engineering from the University of Central Florida in 2006 and previously was awarded a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from Clemson University and Master of Science in Industrial Engineering from the University of Central Florida.
Personal
Mizell was born in Brooklyn, NY, and grew up in Miami, Florida. She lives in Merritt Island with her husband, Richard, and has a son, Matthew.
