Janapriya “JP” Saha
Cross Risk Integration Projects Lead, Space Radiation Element
Janapriya “JP” Saha serves as lead scientist for the Cross Risk Integration Projects and Translational Radiation Research and Countermeasures Project for the Space Radiation Element (SRE). In this role, he focuses on evaluating the risks radiation poses to astronauts based on experimental studies and epidemiological data.
Saha first worked for NASA as a SRE scientist in 2011. He later moved to the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas as a senior postdoctoral research fellow in the department of radiation oncology in 2014 and was promoted as a faculty instructor of the department in 2016. He joined NASA’s Space Radiation Analysis Group as a senior scientist in 2020, working with SRE as the degenerative diseases discipline lead.
Saha received a doctorate in Radiation Biology from the Institute of Medical Radiation Biology at the Medical School of the University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany. His research focuses on understanding ionizing radiation-induced DNA damage, characterizing space radiation-induced biological effects, and investigating medical applications for charged particle radiotherapy.
