FINESSE Research Objectives

J.R. will use remote sensing observations of both the Craters of the Moon and West Clearlake field sites to extend the in-situ and laboratory analysis into a larger regional context. He will also use field visible and near-infrared spectroscopic observations to ground truth orbital observations and interpretations.

Biography

J.R. joined the FINESSE team as a post-doc at LSU. He is bringing experience working with hyperspectral satellite data of volcanoes and impact craters on Mars. He has participated on both the Mars Exploration Rovers and Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter Spacecraft mission. His main research interests lie in understanding the early formation of planetary bodies and their volcanic evolution with time and in developing the techniques and technology needed to survive and explore remote terrains.

J.R. has past field experience with the planetary analogs in the Antarctic Dry Valleys and the Rio Tinto River in Spain and looks forward to expanding his field experience with the FINESSE Team.
