Dr. John F. Clark
Former Director of Goddard Space Flight Center (1966–1976)
Dr. John F. Clark was named the Director of Goddard Space Flight Center on May 5, 1966 after serving as the Acting Director since July 1965. He served in this position until July 1, 1976.
Prior to coming to NASA in 1958, Dr. Clark was head of the Atmospheric Electricity Branch of the Naval Research Laboratory where he managed a number of rocket programs to study various atmospheric phenomena. At NASA, he served in the Office of Space Sciences where he was appointed Director of Physics and Astronomy Programs in 1961 and as Director of Sciences for OSSA in 1963.
Dr. Clark was born in Reading, Pa. and received his B.S. degree from Lehigh University in 1942, his M.S. from George Washington University in 1946 and his PhD. in Physics from the University of Maryland in 1956.
