Deborah J. Hahn

Mission Manager

Deborah J. Hahn is NASA’s mission manager for the STS-122/1E Columbus Mission and the STS-125 Hubble Space Telescope Servicing Mission 4 in the International Space Station and Spacecraft Processing Directorate at the John F. Kennedy Space Center, Fla.

In her role as mission manager, Hahn manages a multidisciplinary team of engineers and technicians that assemble and test the vast array of International Space Station and spacecraft components and experiments that fly aboard the space shuttle. Hahn and her team do whatever it takes to ensure that every piece of payload hardware that is launched into space meets strict quality, safety and engineering standards.

Experience

Hahn is a second generation NASA and Kennedy Space Center employee, following in her father’s footsteps. Her service with NASA began in 1980, as an engineer working with checkout systems in the Design Engineering Directorate. In 1985, she transferred to the Payload Processing Directorate to work as an avionics system engineer. Hahn was promoted through several positions in the Payloads organization, including time spent with the Spacelab project and with test and operations for the International Space Station (ISS), before being named mission manager in 2004.

Awards

Hahn has received numerous honors including “On the Spot” Awards, Group Achievement Awards, a Certificate of Commendation, a Space Flight Awareness Award, and the NASA Exceptional Achievement Medal for exceptional leadership of the ISS Node 2 Integrated Systems Test and the Multi-Element Integrated Test 3.

Education

She graduated from the University of Central Florida in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science in engineering.

Personal

Hahn resides in Titusville, Fla., with her husband, James, and their children, Shannon and Michaela.
