Chascydy Smith
Deputy Director for Program, Planning & Controls, Aeronautics Research Directorate
Ms. Chascydy Smith is the Aeronautics Research Directorate (ARD) Deputy Director for Program, Planning & Controls (PP&C). In this role, she is responsible for the program analysis, schedule management, risk management, configuration & data management, and project coordination support for Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate (ARMD) projects executing at Langley Research Center.
Ms. Smith began her career at NASA in 2000, as a Stay-in-School student intern, supporting the Structures and Materials Competency Office. In 2001, she was accepted into the co-operative education internship program, supporting Financial Management in the Travel Office as an Accounting Clerk. Upon graduating from Old Dominion University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in Accounting, Ms. Smith was offered a full-time permanent position in the Financial Management (FM) Office within NASA Langley’s Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO). She went on to work in many areas in FM, including Accounts Payable, Cost Accounting, Property, Labor, and Standard General Ledger.
In 2008, Ms. Smith moved to the Resources Management (RM) Office in the Langley OCFO, where she supported the Aeronautics Research Directorate (ARD) as a RM Analyst. While in RM, she began a detail assignment as the Lead Analyst for the Hypersonics Project and Langley Program Analyst for the NextGen Concepts and Technology Development (CTD) Project and NextGen Systems Analysis, Integration & Evaluation (SAIE) Project. After the conclusion of her detail assignment, Ms. Smith served for three years as the ARD Business Manager, leading a team of ten Program Analysts. In 2015, she was requested to take on the role of Lead Analyst for the new Convergent Aeronautics Solutions project. From there, she transitioned to the role of Team Lead for Cost and Labor in the Financial Operations and Services Branch of FM. In 2018, Ms. Smith accepted the challenge to become the Lead Analyst on the Low-Boom Flight Demonstrator Project in ARD. Later that year, she was selected to serve as the ARD Deputy Director for PP&C.
Ms. Smith has been recognized as a member of multiple NASA group awards for her contributions to several Agency and Center teams. These NASA group awards include the systems implementations of P-CARD, Travel Manager, Budget Formulation, SAP System Version Update, and the Agency Property Reclassification Initiative.
