Charles W. Lloyd

Associate Director for Strategic Planning and Oversight, Human Research Program

Charles W. Lloyd has worked for NASA for 35 years, starting as a pharmacotherapeutics clinical medicine researcher, and later, as a program manager for the International Space Station Program Office’s Biomedical Research Program. He went on to serve as chief for the NASA Office of Research Assurance, chairman for the NASA Institutional Review Board, and chairman for the Human Research Multilateral Review Board representing NASA, among other positions.   

Lloyd currently serves as the associate director of strategic planning and oversight for NASA’s Human Research Program (HRP). He helps set the direction of future HRP work and he represents HRP in broader agency conversations about operations and research investments needed for the future human spaceflight. His previous responsibilities include leading the human research commercial integration efforts for HRP and the Human Health and Performance Directorate. He has also helped to develop public outreach materials for HRP.

Lloyd received his bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy and doctorate degree in Clinical Pharmacy from Wayne State University. He served as an assistant professor of clinical pharmacology at the University of Houston and the University of Michigan prior to joining NASA in 1988.
