Senior Technical Advisor and Lead Systems Engineer, Aeronautics Research at NASA’s Langley Research Center

Dr. Bryan Barmore is the Senior Technical Advisor and Lead Systems Engineer for aeronautics at NASA’s Langley Research Center where he supports the technical quality and direction of NASA’s aeronautics portfolio. He also in the Standards Coordination lead for the Advance Air Mobility Mission Integration Office for NASA’s Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate. Previously he served as the Deputy Project Manager for Technology for NASA’s Air Traffic Management – Exploration (ATM-X) project where he was responsible for the technology development and direction for future airspace concepts enabling safe and efficient access to the airspace for all users. Bryan joined NASA in 2002 as the lead for Interval Management which aimed to enable aircraft to precisely space relative to each other to increase arrival throughput and enable energy-efficient and low-noise Optimized Profile Descents. He transferred this technology and knowledge to the FAA and aviation community by leading the publication of multiple RTCA and EUROCAE standards for Interval Management avionics. He was a member of the 2007 Robert J. Collier Trophy award team for the development of ADS-B and ADS-B applications. He is the recipient of NASA’s Exceptional Achievement Medal. Dr. Barmore has a PhD in nuclear physics from the College of William and Mary and a BS in physics from Ohio University.  Prior to coming to NASA, Bryan was a research fellow at the Joint Institute for Heavy Ion Research at Oak Ridge National Laboratory where he studied the structure of extreme nuclei.
