Open Science Data Repository Analysis Working Groups (AWG)

Participation and Joining

Are you interested in studying space life sciences, including how spaceflight affects living systems and how to use that knowledge to improve life on Earth? If so, join one (or more) of the Open Science Data Repository Analysis Working Groups. Anyone is welcome to join who wishes to engage in the two main functions and activities of the AWGs (described below), ranging from students to senior professionals. Here is the AWG membership charter with details on participation and expectations. Request to join the AWG now!

Background

The Open Science Data Repository (OSDR) contains multi-modal and multi-hierarchical fundamental space life science data spanning: omics, phenotypic, physiological, behavioral, biomedical, bioimaging, environmental telemetry; tabular, text, code, imaging, video; raw, processed. These data and metadata are available for reuse toward basic science, applied science, and operational outcomes for space exploration and knowledge discovery. OSDR also has open and free public trainings and data analysis/visualization tools for users. To learn more about OSDR, here is a publication covering all aspects. Here are OSDR’s tutorials, the repo itself, the multi-study viz portal, the environmental data application, and RadLab.

Analysis Working Groups

The OSDR Analysis Working Groups (AWG) are separate and distinct from OSDR, and consist of members who voluntarily collaborate and engage in two main activities:

  1. Members provide feedback on scientific standards for reuse (subject and assay metadata; processing pipelines; dataset formats and uniformed structures for machine-readability). Cumulative consensus on standards and feedback can be found here:
  2. AWG members collaborate to mine-reuse OSDR data to conduct scientific analysis, which often leads to peer-reviewed publications. AWG collaborations have resulted in dozens of publications notably a portion in the following package of articles:

AWG Forum

There is a ‘Forum-Space’ for OSDR AWG members to collaborate, find projects, chat with one another, ask questions, and post/find opportunities. Here is the Forum-Space Homepage and pinned top post is the maintained list of all current projects. We will also send a monthly AWG ‘Round-up’ email with updates and opportunities.
