Richard Burns – NESC Academy Biography
Rich Burns hails from the Adirondacks in northern NY. He earned a B.S. degree from Notre Dame and an M.S. from Stanford, both in mechanical engineering. Rich worked for 10 years for the Air Force Research Lab in Albuquerque, NM, as a member of the Space Vehicles Directorate. At AFRL, he worked on a variety of projects including improved orbit determination, high fidelity simulation, and satellite formation flying.
Rich has worked at GSFC for the past 5 years as GNC systems engineer, first leading the development of the Formation Flying Testbed, then transitioning to the GNC systems engineer for the Hubble Robotic Servicing and Deorbit Mission. He is currently working on the development of a relative navigation experiment on the next Shuttle Servicing Mission to HST, as well as serving on the Systems Engineering and Integration Team for the Constellation Project.
