HAMPTON, Va. – NASA today announced the selection of Boeing, Inc., in Huntington Beach, Calif., for a contract award in support of NASA’s Environmentally Responsible Aviation project, managed by NASA’s Langley Research Center here.
The PRSEUS Panels and Associated Components contract will require fabrication of Pultruded Rod Stitched Efficient Unitized Structure (PRSEUS) panels. Principal work will be performed at Boeing’s facilities in Huntington Beach.
The PRSEUS design approach is part of the ERA project’s efforts to address fuel burn and associated CO2 emissions by reducing the weight of advanced structures that could be used in aircraft to make them lighter and more fuel efficient.
The firm fixed-price contract’s period of performance is five months with a total value of $6.2 million.
The ERA project was created in 2009 and is part of NASA’s Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate’s Integrated Systems Research Program. ERA is one of many NASA aeronautics research efforts to develop technologies to make aircraft safer, faster, and more efficient, and to help transform the national air transportation system.
That research is being conducted at NASA Langley, NASA’s Ames Research Center at Moffett Field, Calif., NASA’s Dryden Flight Research Center at Edwards Air Force Base, Calif., and NASA’s Glenn Research Center in Cleveland.
