SERVIR Amazonia is the newest hub to join the global SERVIR network. Implemented by the Alliance of Bioversity International and the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT), the Hub is located in Cali, Colombia, with consortium partners from the Institute of Agricultural and Forest Management and Certification (IMAFLORA) in Brazil, Conservación Amazónica (ACCA) in Peru, Fundación EcoCiencia in Ecuador, and the U.S.-based Spatial Informatics Group (SIG). The Hub includes activities in the focus countries of Brazil, Peru, Colombia, and Ecuador. Other countries reached include Suriname and Guyana.

SERVIR Amazonia addresses environmental and development challenges across the Amazon Basin using state-of-the-art geospatial technologies. Consortium members engage their networks to increase quality, access and use of geospatial information. Services are developed in collaboration with multiple stakeholders, including marginalized groups such as Indigenous communities and women. SERVIR Amazonia empowers decision makers across the region to track environmental changes in almost real-time, evaluate climatic threats, and rapidly respond to disasters.

The lead hosting organization, the Alliance of Bioversity International and the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT), addresses development needs through research and international partnerships. Formally established in 1967, it aims to increase prosperity and improve human nutrition in the tropics through research-based solutions in agriculture and the environment. CIAT has been a regional actor and stakeholder for the last 50 years, with links to public, private, and nongovernmental organizations throughout the Amazon region. CIAT brings a robust set of core competencies in the thematic priority areas for SERVIR Amazonia.

CIAT is a member of the CGIAR Consortium, an international partnership that unites organizations engaged in research for a food-secure future carried out by fifteen centers located around the globe.
