Integrated LCRD LEO User Modem and Amplifier Terminal

The ILLUMA-T payload was hosted on an external module on the International Space Station and demonstrated the benefits of laser communications systems. As part of NASA’s first-ever laser relay, ILLUMA-T sent data to the Laser Communications Relay Demonstration (LCRD) at 1.2 gigabits per second, completing NASA's first end-to-end laser communications system. The successful relay showcased the higher data rates and expedited data transfer laser communications may offer future missions.
