“Meet the Authors”: Space Health Factors in Publications Enabled by Open Science
Welcome to “Meet the Authors”, OSDR’s newest series for the public to hear from – and now converse with – authors of publications that used datasets available from the Open Science Data Repository (OSDR). The goal of the series is to foster direct engagement between researchers and a broad public ranging from students, early career scientists, fellow professional academia, industry sector, and more. In this virtual interview panel session, three authors presented their publications in context of the theme of Space Health Factors, answered moderator questions, and addressed questions from the audience.
As stated by the authors, understanding space health factors is essential considering increased space travel and the prospect of longer duration missions. Dr Luiz Roesch from the University of Florida spoke on gut permeability, Dr Jian Yang from the University of Sasketchewan discussed monitoring systems using genes, and Prof Dr Angela Relógio of the Medical School-Hamburg described circadian dysregulation and countermeasures. Each author agreed that the ability to use datasets available through OSDR both enabled and enhanced their research.
“Meet the Authors” offers a unique opportunity for audience members to be an active participant in the interviews and to ask questions directly to research leaders. This interactive format both promotes collaboration and sparks new ideas and conversations around critical topics. Stay tuned for future sessions as we continue to bring the latest scientific discoveries to the forefront and foster a community of learning through Open Science.
