Transportation Management
The Agency Transportation Manager provides guidance and oversight in accordance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations of all transportation functions within the Agency. Functions are inclusive but not limited to vehicle management and reporting, over roads, water, and hazardous material transporting, transportation for air freight for over ocean/international, household moves, energy saving, fleet credit management, policies and more. The goal is to achieve cost effective and successful operation of transportation functions.
NASA’s Manager performs all aspects of traffic transportation management services and functions, including implementation of the “Agency-wide” Fleet Management Information System. Ensures compliance with regulatory guidance related to Federal Property Management Regulations, State/local laws, Executive Orders and related to traffic management. This also includes compliance with General Services Administration’s Motor Vehicle Management Bulletins, the Federal Motor Vehicle Registration System, the Fleet Sustainability Dashboard, and the Federal Automotive Statistical Tool (FAST); utilization/right-sizing management; and implement preventive and unscheduled maintenance program. Advises and provides oversight of the fleet charge card program, license plate control program, and Alternative Fuel Program policies.
NASA’s goal is to achieve a vehicle fleet that is in full compliance with E.O.13423, Strengthening Federal Environmental, Energy, and Transportation Management; and E.O. 13514, Federal Leadership in Environmental, Energy, and Economic Performance.
Center Responsibilities
NASA’s Center Transportation Officers have the responsibility of the day-to-day function within their respective centers. They provide guidance within the applicable rules and regulations to the contractor and other NASA organizations. Their guidance is critical in many cases when moving space flight hardware in support of NASA’s mission.
