Stars are phenomena within themselves, but in 1998 the HST gave astronomers a rare peek in the final stages of a stars’ life. What you see is a ballooning shroud of gas cast off from the dying star. The image below is aptly named the Stingray Nebula because of its shape. In this, the final stages of a star’s life Hubble has captured the unveiling of the Stingray Nebula, the youngest known planetary nebula.
