Legendary Russian cosmonaut Alexey Leonov departs a farewell ceremony for the Expedition 44/45 crew July 10 at the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center in Star City, Russia. Behind Leonov is astronaut Dan Burbank, the Director of Training Operations for NASA in Star City. Leonov will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the historic Apollo-Soyuz mission on July 15, during which he commanded the Soyuz 19 spacecraft that linked up with the Apollo command module commanded by NASA astronaut Tom Stafford. Expedition 44/45 crewmembers Kjell Lindgren of NASA, Oleg Kononenko of the Russian Federal Space Agency (Roscosmos) and Kimiya Yui of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency will launch on their Soyuz TMA-17M spacecraft July 23 from Baikonur for a five-month mission on the International Space Station.
