In a Sound Chamber
Two NASA employees stand in front of Intelsat IV in its sound-absorbing, or anechoic, chamber in this 1972 photo. Intelsat, or the International Telecommunications Satellite, was built by the Hughes Aircraft Company for an international consortium of 65 nations to meet the growing demand for channels of communication.
