Training a Shape Memory Alloy Wire
Michael Gamarnik is using a heat gun to “train” a piece of shape memory alloy wire into a specific shape as part of a research project intended to find new ways to improve the airflow over an airplane wing in flight. He is the team leader for a group of Georgia Tech students in Atlanta who were selected in 2020 to participate in NASA’s University Student Research Challenge.
