GEMINI-TITAN (GT)-5 – LIFTOFF – CAPE
S65-28694 (21 Aug. 1965) --- The National Aeronautics and Space Administration launched the Gemini-5 spacecraft from Pad 19 at 9 a.m. (EST) Aug. 21, 1965, on a planned eight-day orbital mission. Astronaut L. Gordon Cooper Jr. was the command pilot and astronaut Charles Conrad Jr. was the pilot. A full duration mission will achieve the longest manned spaceflight to date.
