"Well, little did I know, even at a young age, he instilled in me the importance of seeing people for people. And being able to help people and being able to meet them in their time of need. And that carried me throughout my entire life. Even still today.” — Robin Lee, Director of Office of Diversity and Equal Opportunity, Langley Research Center

“I’ve always had a passion for helping people, which is why I became a Security Forces member. But I’ve always had a passion for helping people even before I went into the Air Force. I always felt that helping people was my mission in life, if you will.

“My uncle was a pastor and a judge. And one thing he taught me when I was really, really young was compassion for helping people. He did this by giving all of the kids in the family a song to learn.

“The song he chose for me was exactly that. About helping people. I always thought the song he chose for me was really nerdy and strange. I asked, ‘Why do I have to learn that song?’ And he said, ‘Because all the kids in the family have to learn a song, and sing it in front of the family.’ And we had a big family at the time. And so, he gave me this song called ‘If I could help somebody.’ And so, I sang it.

“Well, little did I know, even at a young age, he instilled in me the importance of seeing people for people. And being able to help people and being able to meet them in their time of need. And that carried me throughout my entire life. Even still today.”
