After numerous studies, it was determined that a subnet of 26 meter antennas at the Deep Space Network stations would need to be upgraded to 34-meter antennas with the added X-band capability. This was necessary to improve the sensitivity for the Voyager missions. The antennas that received the upgrade included: Goldstone: Deep Space Station (DSS)-12; Canberra: DSS-42, and Madrid: DSS-61.
