New York in 2018

Lower Manhattan photographed from low Earth orbit
Seventeen years after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, the site of the World Trade Center hosts the National Sept. 11 Memorial and Museum.

This image of New York City shows portions of Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and almost all of Manhattan, as well as commercial ports of New Jersey. The Hudson River separates Manhattan from New Jersey. The East River separates Manhattan from Brooklyn and Queens while the Harlem River separates the Bronx from Manhattan. The site of the World Trade Center’s north and south towers, destroyed in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, is now the site of the National Sept. 11 Memorial and Museum. The site can be seen near the southern (left) tip of Manhattan, marked by two square pools of water. The photograph was taken in June 2018 from the International Space Station.
