Phil Eberspeaker, former chief of the NASA Sounding Rocket Program at NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility, received the agency’s Distinguished Service Medal from Bill Wrobel, center director of Wallops Flight Facility, April 6, at Wallops. The medal is NASA’s highest form of recognition that is awarded to a Government employee. Eberspeaker was recognized “For sustained leadership and direction of the NASA Sounding Rocket Program, and its continuous facilitation of first-rate scientific research.” Eberspeaker, who began his career at Wallops in 1982, served as chief of the program beginning in 2002 before retiring in January 2018.
