Investigators: Pitch Proposals to Test Crew Health on Commercial Spaceflights
The NASA-funded Translational Research Institute for Space Health (TRISH) seeks proposals to support crew health and performance on commercial spaceflights for its Enhancing eXploration Platform and ANalog Definition (EXPAND) Program.
What are we seeking?
Proposals for this solicitation should focus on two topics:
- Exploratory Science: This topic seeks new, hypothesis-driven scientific studies to support safe and successful human space travel. Subtopics are listed in the formal request for proposals.
- Technology Demonstrations: This topic seeks successful, mature ground technologies or interventions that would benefit from demonstration in spaceflight. Subtopics are listed in the formal request for proposals.
Funded projects will be divided into two phases. The first phase, the “Flight Definition Phase,” will consist of preparation for a potential spaceflight. The second phase, the “Flight Implementation Phase,” will provide support before, during, and after a specific spaceflight has been identified. - Attend the pre-proposal webinar at 2 p.m. ET, March 19, 2025. Register here.
- Submit a proposal through NSPIRES. Step-1 proposals must be submitted for review by April 16, 2025. Proposers considering submitting a proposal must register in the system and award management (SAM) database to ensure ability to receive funds if selected.
Who can submit a proposal? All categories of U.S. institutions and companies are eligible to submit proposals. Principal investigators may collaborate with universities, the private sector, and federal, state, and local government laboratories. Research Duration: Two years.
Award: Project award totals can reach a maximum of $200k for technology demonstrations and $300k for exploratory science studies. Please refer to the Appendix for specific award amount details.

Deadline: Step-1 proposals are due 11:59 p.m. ET, April 16, 2025. Proposers who are invited to submit Step-2 proposals must submit by July 2, 2025.
