Glen E. Swanson has held a fascination for space exploration since
childhood. A native of Grand Rapids, Michigan, he received a BS degree in
education from Western Michigan University in 1987 where he majored in
history and minored in physics and mathematics. After several years of
teaching, including a year as program director for the Michigan Space Center
in Jackson, Michigan, he founded CSPACE Press, an aerospace publishing firm
during which time he acquired and served as editor of Countdown, a monthly
magazine covering the space shuttle program. In 1992 he founded Quest, the
world's only publication devoted to the history of spaceflight. Swanson has
served as a consultant for several space history television productions
including Moon Shot, Rockets and the critically acclaimed HBO series From
the Earth to the Moon. After obtaining an MS degree in Space Studies from
the University of North Dakota in 1998, he began working for NASA as
historian of the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. His most recent
publication has been a collection of oral histories on the Apollo program
which he edited in the NASA published book "Before This Decade Is Out:
Personal Reflections on the Apollo Program." This book (NASA SP-4223) is
available for purchase through the Government Printing Office.
