This is one of my favorite scenes in all of Apollo. I am grateful to Ulli for creating this beautiful sketch which, with some subtle variations from the original images, captures what Jack was trying to do.

Jack has just completed his work at the Station 8 boulder and has started downhill to the Rover.

167:07:20 Schmitt: Too bad I don't have my skis!

167:07:22 Cernan: Jack, did you get a pan up here?

167:07:24 Schmitt: No.

167:07:25 Cernan: I'll get one.

167:07:26 Schmitt: Good, I forgot. I got interested in skiing.

Jack switches to a two-footed skiing stance and makes repeated sounds of skis gliding and, as he goes, tries to hop from side to side.
167:07:39 Schmitt: Shhh. Shhh. Shhh. Shhh. Shhh. Shhh. Whoo! Can't keep my edges. (Pause) Shhhoomp. Shhhoomp. Little hard to get a good hip rotation.
