When Al Bean was a kid, his mother Frances ran a grocery store - ALPA Grocery - named for Al and his sister Paula. Arriving on the Ocean of Storms in November 1969, he quickly realized that there were no grocery stores in the neighborhood and decided to open a branch of the family business. Within minutes, he had his first potential customer, a traveler who was badly in need of cigarettes, having sworn off for the duration of his long journey. |
