I was born in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, in 1978. From a very early age, I've been interested in things that move: first boats, later model aircraft. I studied Aerospace Engineering at Delft University of Technology, where I found that my main scientific interest is numerical flow dynamics; there, I also picked up some spaceflight knowledge. I got a Ph.D. in Amsterdam and since 2007 have worked in Nantes, France, on computer simulation of water flow around ships.I'm also interested in boats off the job: I'm an avid sailor. But mostly, I am fascinated by anything that contains a mechanism, or requires calculation...
