Peter Hughes

Chief Technologist

Peter Hughes is responsible for planning, coordinating, and managing advanced technology-development programs at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center. Among his many responsibilities, Mr. Hughes advises Center leadership on strategies that leverage technology investments to advance NASA’s ambitious science and exploration goals. Mr. Hughes, who represents Goddard on NASA’s new Center Technology Council, also manages the Center’s Internal Research and Development program, NASA’s Center Innovation Fund, and various technology-transfer programs. Mr. Hughes received a B.S. in Computer Science from the College of William and Mary, an M.S. in Computer Science from Johns Hopkins University, and an M.S. in Management Technology from the University of Pennsylvania’s Executive Masters for Technology Management program.

Bhanu Sood

Deputy Chief Technologist

Dr. Bhanu Sood manages Goddard’s Internal Research and Development program, which strategically invests in advanced technologies for future missions. Dr. Sood brings to the post extensive experience in developing and deploying large engineering operations, policy development, and managing supply chain risks. He is a recognized expert in electronics reliability and a contributor to materials industry standards. Dr. Sood holds a doctorate in electronics reliability from the University of Maryland, master’s degrees in metallurgy and materials science, and a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
