April – 8’ x 6’ Supersonic Wind Tunnel

Facility Overview:

The 8’ x 6’ Supersonic Wind Tunnel serves as NASA’s only transonic propulsion wind tunnel, meaning this facility can mimic conditions found at or near the speed of sound which is 741 mph. This facility can test aircraft models or live fuel-burning engines and models from Mach 0.26 to Mach 2. Researchers at Glenn use this wind tunnel to explore high-speed regions of flight for aircraft and rocket designs and have been doing so for more than 70 years. This facility has proven its worth by enhancing the nation’s aeronautics and space programs — proving NASA’s with you when you fly.

Registration Information:

Register for a chance to participate in a guided virtual tour of the 8’ x 6’ Supersonic Wind Tunnel and a question and answer session led by one of Glenn’s researchers. Spaces are limited and participants are selected at random. Selected participants will receive an email confirmation with additional event details such as log-in information and agenda.
