NASA Langley’s Annual Youth Day Returns to Virtual Setting for 2021

NASA’s Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia is once again opening its doors to the world for its annual Youth Day this year.

Usually held for children of Langley employees, Youth Day invites them to the center for a fun-filled day of facility tours and hands-on activities. It’s all designed to inspire the next generation of explorers, engineers and researchers as only NASA can.

With the realities of the COVID-19 pandemic still evident, Youth Day will be a virtual event like it was last year and will be held on Langley’s Facebook and YouTube pages Wednesday, Aug. 18 starting at 9 a.m. for an exciting day of virtual fun and education with live instructional demonstrations, tours of NASA facilities, NASA speakers, and interactive social media events featuring NASA subject matter experts. Here is the schedule of events (all times Eastern):

  • 9 a.m.: Welcome to NASA Langley’s YOUTH DAY with Center Director Clayton Turner
    • Spacey Casey Misses YOU!
    • Langley Virtual Tour – Get a glimpse of the Landing & Impact Research Facility with Martin Annett!
  • 9:30 a.m.: Gliding into the Future with Aeronautics (all ages) – The Ring Wing Glider
  • 10:30 a.m.: Langley Virtual Tour – Check out the Model Shop with Sam James!
  • 11:30 a.m.: What’s Up in the Atmosphere (grades 6-8)

LUNCH BREAK

  • 1 p.m.: Langley Virtual Tour – See inside the 14×22 Subsonic Wind Tunnel with Frank Quinto!
  • 1:30 p.m.: Working Together to Launch Artemis I (grades 9-12)
  • 2 p.m.: Virtual Scavenger Hunt
  • 2:30 p.m.: Closing remarks with a special guest
