NASA’s new deep space rocket, the Space Launch System, will feature a 212-foot-tall core stage, making it the largest rocket stage ever built. The forward join is the top part of the core stage. It is made up of three parts: the forward skirt, liquid oxygen (LOX) tank and intertank. This graphic shows how the three parts were assembled and stacked in its vertical position. Altogether, the forward join makes up 66 feet of the 212-foot-tall stage.
