The American Association of Geographers Meeting was held in Honolulu, Hawaii, between 4/16-20/24, and Diana West from the SERVIR Science Coordination Office (SCO) attended and presented a paper entitled “Transcending Disciplinary Boundaries: Towards Gender-Responsive Remote Sensing for Inclusive Climate Action.” The paper encapsulated the learnings from SERVIR Gender Equity and Social Inclusion (GESI) integration activities, including gender analysis tool and integrating GESI consideration into service design. It was well-received and contributed to a robust body of conversations during the entire conference focusing on issues of social inclusion, reaching more diverse audiences with remote sensing, and how to conduct more socially aware and inclusive science. Other SERVIR global team members presented their work, including the current Applied Sciences Team (AST) PI Hongxing Liu, and former AST and current Subject Matter Expert David Salisbury. In attendance from NASA Langley were Lauren Childs-Gleason, Amanda Clayton (DEVELOP) and Laramie Plott (DEVELOP), who conducted a panel on career opportunities in remote sensing at NASA.
