The 2018 annual report for Langley Research Center, published today, reveals the pivotal role Langley plays in NASA’s exploratory missions in aeronautics, Earth science and space.
Titled “Ideas on the Rise,” the report features a streamlined, easy-to-use format that encourages browsing and gives a fast-paced look at many of the year’s most significant achievements.
“It offers a great summary of our work,” wrote Center Director Dave Bowles. “It shows how we explore new ideas with the goal of pushing boundaries and improving the lives of all Americans.”
The report also delves into a Langley effort that Bowles calls transformation. It’s a campaign to recalibrate practices and operations through cutting-edge technologies and public-private partnerships.
“You’ll see how Langley is transforming to meet the challenges of a new century,” Bowles wrote. “As the report’s title says, these really are ideas on the rise.”
In keeping with the theme of transformation, the annual report’s digital edition has been enhanced to feature videos, photo galleries and links. These elements offer new ways to explore the ground-breaking projects happening at the center.
“We designed this report to function as a window into all we do at Langley,” said Mary Beth Wusk, deputy director of the center’s Office of Strategic Analysis, Communications and Business Development. “We have an exciting story to tell, one that highlights Langley’s high-performing workforce and the innovative research and development being done to deliver on our commitments.
“Everywhere you look, we’re inventing the concepts and tools the agency needs for many kinds of exploration,” Wusk said. “We help NASA chart a path toward a brighter tomorrow.”
