Editor’s Note: As of Tuesday, July 5, NASA and SpaceX are now targeting Thursday, July 14, for launch, and these events are not current. A new advisory will be provided later. Follow the latest mission updates on the agency’s International Space Station blog.
The public is invited to take part in virtual activities and events ahead of the launch of SpaceX’s 25th cargo resupply mission for NASA to the International Space Station. Liftoff is targeted for 10:22 a.m. EDT on Friday, June 10, from Launch Complex 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
SpaceX’s Dragon spacecraft will deliver new science investigations, supplies, and equipment for the international crew, including a study of immune aging and potential for reversing those effects. One of the primary payloads aboard the cargo flight is the Earth Surface Mineral Dust Source Investigation or EMIT. This tool will identify the composition of mineral dust from Earth’s arid regions and analyze dust carried through the atmosphere from deserts to see what effects it has on the planet, further advancing NASA’s data contributions to monitoring climate change. It also will carry an investigation from a team of students at Stanford University that will test the process of creating biopolymer soil composite, a concrete alternative, in microgravity.
Members of the public can register to attend the launch virtually or RSVP to the Facebook event. The virtual guest program for this launch includes curated launch resources, timely mission updates, and a virtual guest passport stamp following a successful launch.
Countdown commentary will begin on NASA Television at 10 a.m. EDT on Friday, June 10, and be carried on the agency’s website, as well as YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitch, Daily Motion, Theta.TV, and NASA’s App.
Members of the public can also share in the journey through a variety of activities, including:
