Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer (IXPE) Conference Presentations at the 21st Meeting of the High Energy Astrophysics Division (Head) of the American Astronomical Society

There were several sessions and presentations on IXPE at the meeting. Things started off with the IXPE Data Analysis Splinter Session on 4/8/24, shortly after conclusion of the eclipse. Phil Kaaret (ST12) presented on the status of IXPE and Doug Swartz (ST12) presented a tutorial on IXPE data analysis. The special sessions “Recent advances in X-ray polarimetric and spectroscopic studies of accreting stellar-mass black holes” and “Probing Blazar Jets with Multi-wavelength Polarization” included multiple talks with IXPE results. The latter session was organized by Yannis Liodakis who is a NASA Postdoctoral Fellow at MSFC. Chien-Ting Chen (ST11) had a talk on “X-ray and multiwavelength polarization of Mrk 501 since 2022” and Kaaret had a poster on “X-ray Polarization of the Eastern Lobe of SS 433”. IXPE results were discussed in many other talks, including those for the HEAD Innovation Prize which was awarded for “the development of novel models to describe emission in the strong gravity regime from accreting compact objects.” The awardees pointed out the need to modify their models to describe X-ray polarization.
