A one-hour panel session for the “Joint Session of ASCEND and Atmospheric and Space Environment Committee,” proposed by Linda Habash Krause (ST13) and Prof. Dr. Z. Charlie Zheng of Utah State University, has recently been accepted for the 2024 American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA)/Accelerating Space Commerce, Exploration, and New Discovery (ASCEND) Conference. The panel session is comprised of four short, invited talks followed by discussion with the audience. The topics are on the Moon-to-Mars program (Bob Loper, ST13), AI/ML techniques for space weather (by L.H. Krause), novel shielding of galactic cosmic rays (by Omar Leon, U of MI), and human tissue research using “organs on a chip” (by Dorit Donovien, Baylor College of Medicine). The Conference is being held in Las Vegas, NM, from 7/29-8/1/24. The panel leadership was motivated by their vision for the AIAA Atmospheric and Space Environment Technical Committee and represents the first joint session with ASCEND.
