The XB-70 is destroyed during a photo formation flight. An F-104 flown by Joe Walker gets caught by the wing tip vortices and collides with the XB-70. The large bomber goes out of control and crashes northeast of Edwards. Walker and the XB-70’s copilot, Maj Carl Cross are killed.
