NASA’s two Global Hawks are shown in their blue-and-white paint scheme lined up together on the ramp at NASA’s Dryden Flight Research Center on Edwards Air Force Base. Bearing NASA tail numbers 871 and 872, the two autonomously operated unmanned aircraft will be used for long-duration environmental science missions. Built by Northrop Grumman, the two early developmental aircraft were obtained from the U.S. Air Force when that service had no further need for them.November 10, 2009
